This is called ctr manipulation. It is expensive and only short term benefits. You might even get a Google penalty by doing it.

Looking at current SEO concepts, it seems click through rate from Google and time on site are important. Very important. This means you can pay people to search for your site, click it and not return to any Google owned site for a few minutes. The running theory is that this disrupts Google's search statistics for CTR, at least for small sites.
